Eve Fogler

I love teaching a fitness-dance class that I can really enjoy. I look forward to Fridays at 9:30 at the TADA Westchester every week because it feels good. We get a good workout, a great stretch, some stress relief…and a good laugh.

We have fun, and we work up a good sweat at the same time!

Nia is like Zumba, but with less choreography—Nia is very simple, anyone can do it, and it makes you feel like a dancer. I call Nia “restorative cardio” because the moves are great therapy for anyone who has knee, back, shoulder or neck issues...or anyone who works on a computer, drives a car or doesn't always have perfect posture…basically that means for most of us!

The first 40 minutes is a low or no-impact cardiovascular workout. (I show 3 levels of intensity, so you can always take it easy, or really work up a good sweat.) Most of us go barefoot, but athletic shoes (that are never worn on the street) are welcome. The movements blend elements of dance (modern like Isadora Duncan and jazz), martial arts (the focus of tai chi, the kicks and punches of tao kwon do, and the continuous flow of akido). Nia is taught using the principles of awareness and alignment from Alexander Technique and Feldonkrais.  There is a fabulous mix of inspiring genres of music that make you want to move--there is no "aerobic beat" pounding music. The last 20 minutes or so is restorative yoga based stretching and relaxation that feels wonderful.

Come join us!
