Stephanie Mear
Stephanie Mear is an artist, dancer, and teacher. Since her first pottery class at age 12, art has been her passion. In 2009 she graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a BFA in Ceramics. Stephanie has been teaching ceramics at KAC since 2007. She loves the positive atmosphere and getting to know all of her enthusiastic students. In addition, she teaches at Garrison Art Center and has taught at several other prestigious art centers in Westchester and Dutchess County.
Her initial ceramic work was primarily based on function, while recent work incorporates more aspects of design and sculpture. Through her work, Stephanie aims to convey a sense of movement and wonder, as well as to inspire the viewer to appreciate and examine this art form in a new way.
Since 2009, Stephanie has been captivated with East Coast Swing Dancing, Lindy-Hop, The Charleston, Balboa, and other dances from the swing era. After taking beginner classes with Linda and Chester Freeman in Ulster County, she began to attend social dances throughout the Hudson Valley. Stephanie dances several nights a week, continues to hone her craft by learning new moves, and takes various workshops with professional swing dance teachers. She recently began to teach beginner swing dance, with fellow dancer and friend Nelson Rodriguez, in the TADA program at KAC.
There are so many reasons to love swing dancing. The dance is uplifting, athletic, social, and brings so much joy to its participants! Stephanie aims to impart the excitement and delight of this dance to as many people as possible, while cultivating a community that will flourish in the Westchester area.
